Two steps forward, three steps back

Well, I’ve started writing again. I’m not working on the sequel to Crown Jewels like I’d originally planned – that one’s still simmering in my subconscious. No, this time I’m working on a light fiction piece. For those of you unfamiliar with the term, it’s pretty much the modern-day version of the good old dime-store novels. Their generally set in worlds of stereotypes and tropes that make world building almost unnecessary which makes them easily convert into manga and anime. Some examples are Dirty Pair and I’m in Love with the Villainess.
It's that worldbuilding shortcut that drew me to the genre – after all of the work that went into Crown Jewels, I could use a break. I’m not using a plot this time. Instead, I’m writing by the seat of my pants (making it up as I go along), stitching together various scenes to create an isekai litRPG novel called Twilight Mage – that is no longer isekai, and with very little RPG to it.
I’ve been working at it for a little over a month and started this week approaching 24,000 words. And that’s when I decided to remove the isekai bits. Four days later and I’m approaching 23,000 word, with probably another 500 words that are going away. And that’s with adding new bits, too.
Oh, the joys of writing.
Who knows whether this story will end up in somebody’s TBR pile or languishing in my unfinished works folder, but it’s got me writing again, and that’s a good thing.
As a treat, here’s the prologue:
I am Kin.
I am Darkness.
I am Human.
I am Light.
I am the Twilight Mage.
